 Athena Kottak from Femme fatale

          and ex wives of ROck

Now alot of you know of athena from ex wives of rock, Shes like the

very sarcastic, honest, no bullshit best friend that any girl could

ever want. But Athena is also a very talented drummer. She has literally

won awards for this. Ive been a fan for a very long time at first the reason

why i liked her was because shes tommy lees sister but once i knew more

about her and realised how much of a kickass rocker she was my respect

for her grew deeper. Getting to watch who she is on her show is just

                                              the icing on the cake.

So when i was looking thru people for my first interview back i chose

Her. It was just a plus that she was playing for one of my favorite bands

from back in the day Femme Fatale. Girls Rock People!

She is amazing and iam very honored that she would give me a

little bit of her time. So Please if you dont know her please check

her and Femme Fatale out to It will be worth your while.

follow the links at the bottom of the page.

                                      Interview by Kay Starr

TRF: What is your style of playing and How would you describe it?

AK: I really just like uncomplicated, in the pocket grooves. Described like “Boom Whack”

TRF: What do you think is your most important quality you bring to any band

you play with?

AK: Ummm, you should ask someone I play with. I’m not sure but I do know that I’m there because

I love it & it’s fun for me so one thing I DON’T bring is drama. I’ve been in other bands with plenty

of it & it takes the fun right out of playing.

TRF: What are you most passionate about, being a musician?

AK: Playing live! I’m not a studio girl. Don’t get me wrong, I love being in the studio but live is what does it for me!!

TRF:  what do you think besides music is the best thing you give to your fans,

and what do they give you that keeps you wanting to play?

AK: FUN & love for how ever long we are there & playing! And honestly I get exactly the same back from them.

I guess you get out of it all what you put in it!

TRF: How do you spend your free time? Hobbies?

AK: Depends where I am & what there is to do.

I LOVE exploring new places but at home I just like to  hang out

& watch movies, play tennis, cook……all kinds of things

TRF: What do you think is your favorite song to play? and why?

AK: Lol right now it’s “Waiting For the Big One”. Personal reasons

TRF:What inspires you?

AK: I can find inspiration almost anywhere but it most hits me when I see or hear stories of ppl overcoming

obstacles & unexpected things & going on to kick ass.

TRF:who are your influences and why?

AK: My kids, I want to be them when I grow up <3 They inspire me!

KS: Me To Athena Me to.

TRF: what are you listening to?

AK:New “BAD SUNS” album. It’s great!

TRF: If you could have a dream band, who would you put in it and what kind

of music would you play?

AK: No idea. I have so many different likes & tastes.

TRF: Is there something that you tried and tried to do but you never quite

got it or it was tough but you finaly got it? with music?

AK: I would LOVE to be  able to play guitar. I have these long octopus fingers

that just get all tangled up!

TRF: What was your first concert?

AK: Rainbow & Pat Travers

TRF: what made you choose drums?

AK: They were in my family home.

TRF: do you play any other instruments?

AK: I played accordion & in marching band played clarinet & flute

(go ahead with the jokes.. ha) I didn’t like playing any of them.

TRF:what does your kit consist of? anything more you would like to add to it?

AK: 5 piece & I LOVE it! I will always keep it the same unless something

else specific is needed.

TRF: was there a changing moment in your life when you

realised that this was for you, that drums was your

passion and you needed to learn it? if so what was

that?

AK: Yes, it was being at a concert & FEELING the energy there. That energy is amazing!

It truly is it’s own drug!

TRF: when was your first show and how did it go?

AK: Gazzarri’s 198something. I was crazy nervous but it was so much fun I never stopped

TRF:  what was the most interesting thing a fan ever gave you or did for you?

AK: Not sure, I’ve had some pretty strange AND pretty nice things happen over the years.

TRF:what are you plans for the future?

AK: I don’t make plans anymore. They’re not mine to make.

TRF: You have played with alot of different bands do you have a favorite?

AK: Femme Fatale  all the way!

TRF: do you have a favorite place you played and why does that place stand

out to you?

AK: I have a few so……

TRF: Do you think females in rock are underated just because there female?

AK: Not anymore! I think people have grown since  those years & ways of thinking

TRF: what do you think of the rock of this decade compares to the rock

of when you were coming up?

AK: It’s not better, it’s not worse… It’s definitely not the same but it is what it is.

We had/have what we like & people right now have what they like.

That’s what makes it OURS & THEIRS. It’s supposed to change.

Every decade needs it’s own special thing you know? That’s what makes life interesting.
