Andrew Prestidge Drummer of Lucifer

Dark, Intelligent, Heartfelt, Rock is how i see this band. The band is fronted by a
Female which iam allways a fan of. There definatly different from alot of whats out there, I guess they would be put in the box of maybe Black Sabath or Blue oyster cult But i think the Box doesnt exist for these guys.  So check them out by following the links at the bottom of the interview and Lets see what Drummer Andrew Prestidge has to share with us.

TRA: When did you start playing?
AP: I starting playing a snare & ride cymbal that my dad gave when i was about 11, eventually i got a kick drum then after that  a floor tom etc.... on my 16th birthday got my first 'proper' kit a Premier APK & then off i went to pursue a lifetime of poverty & adventure.

TRA! Why the drums?
AP: The drums seemed exciting, i heard punk rock! The Damned,Dead Kennedys,
Killing Joke etc...& i wanted to play as fast as possible but also because my
dad played drums & i wanted to be like him or follow in his footsteps as you like.

TRA: When was your first show Playing and how did it go?
AP: My first gig was at a place called The Roxborough, in Harrow, i think 'The Who' played there once but this place was knocked down years ago probably after we played, haha, i think we were all collectively about 14-15 years old and we were
called 'Teenage Lobotomy' after The Ramones song, i remember two things about
this gig, our singer was so nervous he tried to get drunk but didn't realise he was
drinking non alchoholic beer all night, not that it stoppped him throwing up all
night but in the end we had to play an instrumental set and he stood throughout
the entire set not singing, also our local rival band had turned up to sabotage the
gig but in the end we all made up & went home together butI can still vividly
remember it.

TRA: Do you beleive you have a style of playing if so how would you
Describe it?
AP: Some people say i am an old school 'classic' rock player, personally i loved the
speed & attitude of Punk & Thrash Metal growing up , then discovered 70s
proggressive rock drumming, so i like to think that i have that punk rock primal
energy mixed with the finesse of the progressive drummers in my feel &
performance, i'm also self taught & in some ways it can be a bad thing as you
pick up bad habits but you can also come up with interesting parts as there are &
should be no rules!

TRA: Do you play any other instruments?
AP: I have played guitar for about 20 years but only as a device for writing &
arranging & a bit of keys the drums are my main instrument

TRA: What Inspires you?
AP: Art, Film, Nature, Music

TRA: What do you think you bring to the band?
AP: Hopefully a musicality & attitude all within the drum & group performance

TRA: What are you most passionate about, Being a musician?
AP: Making a difference, doing something that is from the heart & honest &
 enjoying the moment.

TRA: Who are your influences?
AP: Drumming Influences; Rat Scabies(The Damned), Paul Ferguson (Killing Joke), Bill Bruford (King Crimson, Yes),Neil Peart (Rush), Bill Ward
(Black Sabbath) Dominic Luckman (Cardiacs), & many more

TRA: Is there something you tried and tried to do but you
never quite got or it was tough but you finaly got it? musically?
AP: Extreme double bass drum playing, it's like a sport! my brain is not wired to
 play that way.

TRA: What was your first concert You went to?
AP: The Damned-10th Anniversary,Finsbury Park 1986

TRA: What are you listening too?
AP: Currently: William D, Drake-Revere Reach, mostly i've been listening to the
same stuff i've always listened to & that is:Cardiacs-On Land & In The Sea
Slint-Spiderland, Gentle Giant-Three Friends, Killing Joke-S/T, Black Sabbath
-Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, King Crimson-Red/Discipline, Genesis-The Lamb
(Live Archive)The Damned-Machine Gun Ettiqutte/Black Album/Strawberries

TRA: was there a changing moment in your life when you
realised that this was for you, that Drums was your
passion and you needed to learn it? if so what was
that?
AP: Hearing Kings Of The Wild Frontier on the John Peel show, the tribal
drums was my calling

TRA: What is your favorite song to play Live and why?
AP: Hard to pick one song as the whole set is a pleasure to play, i would pick
'Abracadabra' or 'White Mountain', great driving songswith some interesting changes.
